NEEDS

Magazzini Generali Viscontei constantly acts on implementations and innovations, both structural, by building new spaces (+7,500 sq. m. of covered areas from 2000 to 2007), and in the area of computerized systems, by searching for a WMS capable of optimizing logistics flows to cope with the increase in references and volumes handled.


After careful evaluation on reliability / reliability / professionalism / compatibility of needs / quality of products and after-sales service, in 2005 they chose Replica Sistemi with the StockSystem product, followed by the various upgrades and customizations, up to today's StockSystem, the WMS of the SMA.I.L. suite:)

SOLUTIONS

Being a logistics operator, they have to manage customers belonging to different commodity sectors, so the loading/unloading units of the warehouse have to be measured with different units of measurement: pieces, packages, meters, liters, kilograms, etc.

Often the volumes of goods handled are not "standard," so they cannot be allocated in special shelves, but managed "randomly" in the available warehouse spaces in order to take advantage of all potential space.

The goals were:

  • Speed and accuracy in order preparation
  • Product expiration management
  • Revolving inventory and real time inventories
  • Order capture via EDI
  • Reduction of errors
  • Increased accuracy and punctuality

  • WMS: StockSystem

  • Hardware: 20 terminals Motorola MC9190, 2 Motorola VC5090 portables and 1 Retel scale

After a flow analysis, it was decided to implement the WMS by entering each customer step by step.

For each customer, the following analysis was done:

  • Analysis of materials
  • Analysis of managed flow
  • Analysis of warehouse layout

In order to optimize allocations in the warehouse and the stages of receiving, storage, and to speed up lowering during picking and shipping.


In order to offer more service to a customer, a Retel scale was also implemented to detect the weight and volume of the package.

By also taking a photo, the complete sheet of the item to be customized appears in the registry.

Starting from this data, StockSystemEvolution is able to calculate the volume of the pallet, thus also optimizing the allocation in the warehouse.

The complete master file, including data on:

  • Composition of the pallet
  • Size and weight of the package
  • Size of the pallet
  • No. of layers of the pallet

Many other data (EAN/language/orgine/...) is transmitted from MGV to the customer's management system, which automatically updates the e-commerce website as well, thus updating the available stock in real time.

This data can be used by the customer for their own sales plans/strategies or for transportation scheduling (load plan).
