The year was 1974 when Ewald Pitschl began distributing the Birkenstock brand in northern Italy. At that time it was Ewald himself who personally delivered the German brand's sandals to shopkeepers in South Tyrol and Emilia Romagna and to end buyers. The shopkeepers, in fact, were still firmly convinced that these sandals, although extremely comfortable, would never catch on in the Italian market because of their appearance. Yet the future always brings some surprises: very quickly the demand for Birkenstock anatomical sandals grew steadily. Soon Ewald was able to expand distribution and include additional shoe brands in its assortment. Today NaturalLook distributes four different brands of comfortable footwear made in Europe and beyond in Italy.

In 1974, the first store specializing in anatomical shoes opened to the public in South Tyrol, to the delight of those who valued foot health and comfort in addition to aesthetics. Just 10 years later, founder Ewald Pitschl was distributing Birkenstock brand footwear throughout Italy. Four more specialty stores were opened in Trentino-South Tyrol between 1986 and 1992, and the opening of NaturalLook's new location in Bolzano Sud followed in 2004. Today the Bolzano-based company specializes in the nationwide distribution of comfortable, healthy footwear Made in Europe and in the Europe-wide distribution of internationally produced footwear.
