Choosing Replica Sistemi was a gamble, because in 1998 it was in its beginning in the field of warehouse logistics. However, it showed that it believed in it by hiring qualified and very professional people.
Today in the various plants there are a hundred terminals and a lot of PCs connected to StockSystem because all tracking, material handling and warehouse logistics are entirely managed by the software.

NEEDS

In 1998 the management of Argo Tractors Spa decided to improve some aspects of the logistics process to improve the organization and management of all warehouse logistics flows related to the three production plants.

The goals of the project:

  • computerize a paper and manual flow;
  • Reducing the supply time of materials on the line;
  • reduction of errors in the use of materials on the line;
  • increased level of customer service;
  • unification of logistics systems in the 3 production plants.

SOLUTIONS

After careful evaluation, Argo Tractors decided to implement Replica Sistemi's StockSystem solution in the standard version, with RF terminals to optimize goods entry, storage, picking and control operations.

The execution of operations in the warehouse is then entrusted to the RF system, which enables real-time transmission of data to the warehouse management system. Logistics operators work efficiently using RF (Radio Frequency) terminals interfaced with remote Access Point repeaters.

  • WMS: StockSystem

  • 57 Honeywell terminals 9551 and 9951

The Project consisted of three important elements:

1. STUDY OF EXISTING NEEDS AND PROCESSES

  • Preliminary phase of study of the processes in use at our Company to manage the flow of goods.
  • Definition of critical points that could be improved through computerization of the process.
  • Definition of the indispensable steps within the process that would also have to be maintained in the computerized flow.
  • Drafting of the technical offer.

2. ANALYSIS

The analysis was aimed at:

  • Defining a functional surface distribution for the main areas: Receiving, unloading, input management and control; Positioning, storage, transit; Output unit layout, loading, output management and control. Layout solutions for each area are determined by the structures used (shelves, stacks, etc.) the handling equipment, the functions performed (order management offices, shipping, inspections)
  • Identification of handling equipment.
  • Definition of receiving, positioning, picking functions. Storage/transit. Cross docking.
  • Inventory management (ABC), inventories.

3. INTEGRATION

During the various installations, StockSystem was integrated with:

  • Automatic carousel warehouses for high handling materials with limited volumes and weights.
  • Automatic packing lines and floor weights for bulky materials.
  • Automatic generation of customized labels and waybills based on the Carrier used.
  • Generation of customized reports required for tracking and handling of materials in the Company.
  • Integration in both input and output with the company management system.

  • Supplier Reception
  • Sorting in unloading areas
  • Sorting in the Testing area
  • Loading into warehouse locations

  • Calls from the assembly line
  • Pickup from warehouse locations
  • Feeding assembly line
  • Reporting missing from warehouse locations

The use of StockSystem has led to a reorganization of warehouse logistics and optimization of space, a reorganization and reallocation of activities, allowing greater specialization of operators in each of the operational areas, as well as the precise definition of individual tasks with the possibility of checks and redistribution of tasks if loads are not evenly distributed.

Goods entry area

  • Receipts recorded in real time
  • Full labeling of goods received
  • Traceability of goods received
  • Material quantity verification
  • Automatic testing of materials when scheduled

Stocking

  • Definition of fixed areas by material type
  • Definition of variable or fixed locations
  • Automatic guided system storage
  • Automatic definition of suitable medium for stock type

Picks

  • Automatic generation of pick lists
  • Breakdown of lists by area and operator
  • Optimized picking by material route and urgency
  • Automatic dispatch of missions to operators
  • Division of workloads

Checks

  • Sorting with carton creation and packing list
  • Preparing goods for carriers

Advantages

  • Reduction in assembly line delivery time by 3 days from the call for material to putting the material on the line
  • Decrease in staff handling internal material
  • Faster identification of stock or bill of materials errors
  • Earlier reminder time on suppliers
  • Decrease in inventories

Advantages

  • Certain identification of line areas where to take material
  • Decrease in line misses
  • Efficiency in the use of vehicles and operators
  • Efficiency in the use of warehouse logistics space
  • Increased quality of customer service
