RFID is the add-on of the SMA.I.L:) SMART INTEGRATED LOGISTICS platform,integrated to the StockSystem WMS, for the management of warehouse flows through the use of RFID- Radio Frequency Identification technology. Stocksystem manages and controls devices for reading and writing RFID tags.

The RFID technology is based on the ability to memorize and remote access data using electronic devices, called "TAG" or transponders, that are able to reply communicating the information they contain when "questioned".

The availability of an implant for the management of RFID technology constitutes an additional possibility to improve timely control of the Supply Chain, making information contained in RFID tags applied to products, containers, pallets or packages accessible in real time.

Within RFID projects it is possible to configurate events and management rules, establishing filters on event-related data as well. the system is also able to carry out checks and handle exceptions and alarms. StockSystem is equipped with two main components to handle the whole interaction with RFID readers and tags:

RFID PRODUCTION MODULE

In the RFID Production Module, through carefully placed antennae, the software application receives information detected from the reading of RFID tags of individual items (traced with HF technology), of the packages that contain them (traced with HF or UHF), and of the pallet the packages are placed upon (traced with UHF), and it can also request the recording of related data, for example the production batch or production order number.

Data are stored in the database, in a table that can always be consulted and processed.

RFID SHIPMENT MODULE

The RFID Shipment Module manages picking and order preparation activities. For picking, stocking and moving of pallets, the forklifts are equipped with an RFID antenna on the forks, able to read data contained in the tag placed on the pallet.

The antenna is connected to the net viao TCP/IP with radio terminals. During the picking phase, the radio terminal sends the pickup command send by the WMS.

The designed number of packages passes before the RFID detecting antenna. The system thereby identifies and traces exactly what packages and items related to a specific delivery order have been picked.

RFID Hardware

Replica Sistemi offers active and passive RFID systems, integrated to its own software applications, developed to easily manage and control a wide range of devices for reading and writing RFID tags (stationary and vehicular computers, handheld computers, printers, tags and labels).

StockSystem, through the aforementioned hardware devices, intercepts radio signals to locate and identify the goods, products and/or transport assets equipped with special electronic tags. These tags, also known as smart labels or smart tags, enable automatic track-and-trace of goods/goods throughout the supply chain.

RFID TAG (or Transponders)

Depending on the application field, RFID tags can take different shapes, dimensions and consistencies and, based on the required use, they can be of different types:

active: equipped with internal battery, thus capable of transmitting the signal autonomously, it's used in situations requiring the possibility to read/write from several meters of distance;
passive: cheaper, and without battery; it contains only one microchip, one antenna and one capacitor, which, solicited by a magnetic field, allow the transmission and reception of data at close range.

Readers

Readers can be fixed, handheld, or vehicular:
Fixed readers: they can be installed on portals near loading and unloading bays, or on high-speed conveyors, enabling the reading of Tags placed on pallets or boxes. Data identification is achieved by filtering data and controlling peripherals for accurate and effective supply chain management.
Handheld readers: they allow the user to bring the technology to the point of operation, exactly where it is needed. They represent an economical and ideal choice for cases where it is more practical to bring the read/write device to the object with the Tag, rather than moving objects to the vicinity of a fixed reader.
Vehicular readers: they ensure maximum mobility in supply chain management without having to change the standard procedure. Instead of moving the material to perform the reading, it can be read while being transported to the loading bay, warehouse, or truck.

RFID label printers

An RFID Tag, containing the microchip and its antenna, can be inserteded into an adhesive label. The amount of data to be stored and its allocation in memory depend on the microchip used. Each microchip (and therefore each label) contains a UID (Unique Identifier) previously programmed when the chip was manufactured.
